MAT 221 Elementary Probability & Statistics I

There are very few careers now in which statistical analysis of data doesn’t play a role, from business management, to science, to education, to marketing, to sport.
MAT 221 is the first in a two-course sequence that explores data-driven analysis. Along with an introduction to elementary probability and statistics, you’ll get the basics of sampling, data collection, and random variables as a preparation to make statistical inferences (which is covered in MAT 222).
MAT 222 Elementary Probability & Statistics II

“Data is a precious thing and will last longer than the systems themselves,” writes Sir Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web.
Exploring more deeply the fascinating world of statistical analysis, and building on the skills and knowledge learned in MAT 221, students of MAT 222 will develop a working understanding of a variety of inferential techniques.
You’ll use statistical software to go beyond basic statistical analysis to create reasoning and data analysis. Then you’ll put what you’ve learned to work in a group project that will require your team to analyze and solve a challenging statistical problem.
